Was your internship a location-based or virtual? Location-based

What was the application process like?

As I personally knew one of the partners at the firm, I was simply told to email my CV to the managing partner. Soon after that, I got an email saying that I was offered an internship.

What were you looking to gain from the internship experience?

A better insight into how law firms as businesses operate and the type of work each practise area does.

What attracted you to the company for an internship?

The stellar reputation of the firm for being well-known for corporate work and being a member of the international firm, Denton

What did you enjoy the most about your internship?

The thing I enjoyed the most was being assigned a supervisor in the corporate department who made my time at the firm the most fulfilling. Before asking me to do each task, he would give me a brief overview of the case and he would also give me a crash course on the topic he would like me to research. That way I always felt included in the work and it made me understand topics a lot easier.

What did you enjoy the least about your internship?

The administrative tasks which can at times be very long. I had to do hours of transcribing work which is less enjoyable in comparison to other types of legal work.

What is the typical working day like?

I would log on to my laptop and do tasks assigned to me. Throughout the day, whichever lawyer needs help would ring into the pupils and interns room and ask for someone to come to their office to be assigned a task. That way we were always kept busy.

What tasks were assigned to you during your internship?

I was assigned mainly research work which covered a range of practice areas, from corporate to real estate to dispute resolution. I also did other work like transcribing and reviewing contractual agreements.

What was the most challenging part of your internship?

I think adapting to the working hours. As we are normally used to having a lot of time during the day, the internship took away most of that free time. It can be quite tiring at times.

How did the experience benefit your career in the future?

It gave me an insight into working with a law firm. It also helped me identify which practise areas I would like to specialise in the future. It also helped me identify the type of firm I would like to work in, in terms of size and culture.

Any advice you would like to give to the others who are looking for an internship?

Be brave and ask. I think connections make securing internships a lot easier, so build connections with partners of firms on LinkedIn.

Yes. The culture of the firm was amazing where everyone was so willing to help each other out. The lawyers at the firm are also top-notch and it is really an insightful experience to witness how they conduct their work.
